The competition began in 1994 and affords the best golfers in the world an opportunity to play for country or regional pride in a format meant to loosely mimic the much older Ryder Cup. A couple of other traits of the Presidents Cup make it stand out from other tournaments. Notably, players are not paid directly for their participation, win or lose.

Instead, each golfer allocates an equal portion of the funds generated to charities of his choice. Since the event’s inception, more than $54.4 million has been raised for charity from event proceeds, as well as contributions made on behalf of the Presidents Cup, including a charitable donation of $5.3 million from the 2019 event alone.

Traditional golf tournaments start with a large field of golfers all playing individually to post the best score, and lowest total wins. The Presidents Cup, like it’s older cousin the Ryder Cup, is a team event consisting of match play, in which golfers play head to head, either individually or in pairs.

The Presidents Cup runs over four days, like a traditional tournament. The first two days will alternate between four-ball (best ball) and foursomes (alternate shot). The third day of competition will feature both of those formats, one set in the morning, the other in the afternoon. And on the fourth day, 12 singles matches close out tournament play, and it’s here when the title truly gets decided.

The Presidents Cup consists of two 9-hole rounds and players compete against their rivals to earn points for their team. 1. Presidents Cup 2022 Basic Info

The Presidents Cup is a prestigious team event between the United States and Europe. The two teams are pit against each other to determine which is the best disc golf continent.

3. Presidents Cup Rules

3.1. Teams & player numbers

Teams must designate numbers for their players: players no 1 to 6 in men and 1 to 2 in women. Numbering takes place at the tournament center one hour before the tournament.

3.2. Groups

The Presidents Cup will be played in four groups of four players. There are three men’s groups and one women’s group.

3.3. Tournament phases

Presidents Cup consists of two separate phases:

• Phase 1 is individual best shot on holes 1-3, 9-11 and 16-18.
• Phase 2 is match play between numbered players on holes 1-3, 9-11 and 16-18.
• All players play 18 holes. (Unless the game is concluded before that.)

4. Presidents Cup 2022 Points System

Players can earn points for their teams with the following point system.

• Individual Best Shot points: 28.
• Match Play points: 24.
  The team who collects the most points is the winner of the Presidents Cup. A total of 52 points are available. 26 1/2 points are required to win the Presidents Cup.

4.1. Round 1

Individual Best Shot. Men and women, holes 1-3, 9-11 and 16-18.
There are 7 points awarded to each group, 28 points in total:

• Lowest score 4 points
• 2nd lowest score 2 points
• 3rd lowest score 1 point
• 4th lowest score 0 points
• Ties split the points in question.

4.2. Round 2

Match Play. Men and Women, holes 1-3, 9-11 and 16-18.

• Winner of a match play 3 points.
• Tie in a match = 1 1/2 points each.
• In case of a tie between teams after all holes played: 1 player sudden death play-off on holes 16, 17, and 18.
• Team captains will nominate the sudden death players.

5. Presidents Cup 2022 Trophy

The winning team will receive the Presidents Cup (trophy) for one year and all team members will have their names engraved on the trophy.
